Week 1
- Enter within your visa validity; keep the landing slip.
- Book the ID card appointment the day you arrive.
- Get a real-name SIM and an Octopus card.
- Secure a proof of address: tenancy agreement, or a letter from your employer or institution.
Weeks 2–4
- Register for the ID card; open a bank account; set up utilities and broadband if renting.
- Confirm your employer has enrolled you in MPF.
Within the first year
- File your first tax return when it arrives and budget for provisional tax.
- Diarise your limit of stay and start the extension file a few months ahead.
- If you set up a company: annual return, business registration renewal, employer’s return and profits tax return each have their own dates.
